Sep 1, 2020

September is National Preparedness Month (NPM) and in this episode Secretary Friedlander interviews Preparedness Branch Manager at the Department for Public Health Robbie Hume. With the 2020 NPM theme in mind: Disasters Don't Wait, Make Your Plan Today, they discuss four keys to emergency preparedness:

Make a Plan

Build a Kit

Prepare for Disasters

Teach Youth About Preparedness

Hume suggests that downtime during COVID-19 is a good time to reassess one's current emergency plan, because it's not a matter of "if", it's a matter of "when" a disaster will strike Kentucky.

Hume's father was a fire chief, and he developed a passion for helping others as a volunteer firefighter. This passion extended to preparedness and public health, guiding Hume to public service as a career. He expresses gratitude for volunteers, co-workers, and stakeholders who worked 14-hour days during the early months of COVID-19 and for those still serving tirelessly during this historic event.
